On August 27, 2014, Kansas State University Speech and Hearing Center and the Scottish Rite Organization celebrated
its partnership on the campus of Kansas State. K-State hosted a program and reception for the Scottish Rite Members,
Kansas State University Faculty and Communication Sciences and Disorders Students.
The program consisted of comments from Dr. Robert Garcia, Program Director and Melanie Hilgers, Clinic Director.
Dr. John Buckwalter, Dean of Human Ecology and Dr. Dottie Durband, Director of School of Family Studies and
Human Services extended messages of gratitude to the Scottish Rite Members for their dedication to children
with communication disorders and their families.
Local parents of a client highlighted their child’s story and the impact that Kansas State Speech
and Hearing Center Services have had on his life. They shared their appreciation for the client scholarship
that they had received.
Mr. Hugh Gill and Mr. Don Hamilton welcomed Kansas State as a new Rite Care Clinic
and presented Dr. Robert Garcia with a plaque and financial contribution. Refreshments were served and tours
of the Kansas State Speech and Hearing Center were provided to Scottish Rite Members by graduate students in
Communication Sciences and Disorders.
