2nd Annual Run/Walk to Help Children Talk at Fort Hays State University

On Saturday, April 26th, 2014, the second annual Run/Walk to Help Children Talk was hosted by students of the national Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association at Fort Hays State University and faculty and staff of the Geneva Herndon Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic. This event was hosted in conjunction with the Scottish Rite Masons from the Valley of Salina, Orient of Kansas. Proceeds from the event will support student scholarships and clinic materials.

There were 60 participants who ran and walked the 5K course around the Fort Hays State University campus. Prizes were awarded for the top three females and male runners as well as the top five walkers. These individuals are as follows: Female Runners 1) Nicole O’Dwyer, 2) Ashley O’Dwyer, and 3) Molly McCartney; Male Runners 1) Michael Brandel, 2) William Poland, and 3) Blake Roth; and walkers 1) Julia Kent, 2) Stephen Mizell, 3) Ron Kent, 4) Jacque Jacobs, and 5) Andrea Wichers.

Approximately 20 students majoring in speech-language pathology volunteered their time and talents for the event. Following the Run/Walk, a lunch for Scottish Rite visitors was held. Those present for the event were Don and Beverly Hamilton, Jim and Carol Winn, Nadine Gable, all from Salina, Doug Gomel, Beverly, Brad Boyer, Hays, and Henry and Carolyn Burmeister, Holyrood.

Marla S. Stabb, (center) Coordinator of the Herndon Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic. Marla will be retireing at the end of the school year. She will be missed by the staff of the Scottish Rite Office here in Salina. To the Left of Marla is Dr. Jayne Brandel, Chair of the Communications Disorders Depart. at FHSU, with whom we look forward to working.
